Momentum Matters Most

Some technology leaders freeze when it comes to automation. They blame imperfect data as a reason not to act. But momentum matters the most. (endnote 1)

As tech leader Gerhard Kress explains, its remarkable how much value you can get from data you already have:

We hardly deploy additional sensors. For example, we use what’s already there in the doors and brakes <of the trains they manage>. The longer and faster the train, the more sensors that are already there. Plus, adding sensors to a train is a costly exercise and prone to breakages. It is remarkable how far you can get with existing data.

- Gerhard Kress, from Siemens Mobility (endnote 2)

The Siemens MindSphere team uses available data to make innovative decisions. They predict when to perform maintenance before equipment breaks, make travel safer, optimize train stops, and save money.

All with imperfect data.

Momentum matters most.
