Train-alytics
Lies spread six times faster than the truth. I think that’s why “automation” has become more synonymous with “job loss” than “good.” CAF Group is an example of automation for good. They make, maintain, and operate trams, metros, commuter, and high-speed trains.
Their suite of apps use data generated by their trains to help humans manage that automation. I think of it as “train-alytics.”
Train-alytics automatically detect how many passengers are in each coach. That knowledge is sent in real-time to the next stop, so you can choose which car you want to get in. I want this app!
Other CAF Group applications use computer vision to ensure wheels are safe. New industrial IoT technology on trains help automatically detect objects and avoid collisions. As Javier de la Cruz said in our recent podcast, “my role is to help our people do the right thing at the right time, with the right knowledge.”
Automation will eliminate jobs, yes. But more importantly, it creates jobs too and makes the world a better, safer place.
