Trevor Bauer Goals, 2021
Trevor Bauer was the best pitcher in baseball last year. On the Northstar Podcast, he explained his views on physics, analytics, and the evolution of “pitch design.” It’s one of my favorites of the year (footnote 1).
Bauer is the Chief Technology Officer of pitching. He uses data, analytics, and technology to push the sport forward. For example, Trevor started using 1,000 frame-per-second videography five years before his competition. Where information is missing, he finds a way to get it. His discussion of spin rate, velocity, and release point bulldoze conventional wisdom.
Bauer is the Bryson DeChambeau of baseball. He’s insatiably curious. He’s a scientist. He’s a great athlete.
He’s controversial.
Bauer is the Peter Thiel of baseball. He thinks like an entrepreneur. He doesn’t seek to improve old norms; he breaks them. He mixes old ideas with new ones (footnote 2).
Bauer is a 2021 goal setting inspiration: a curious, polymathic, controversial leapfrogger.
