Why “Techno Sapien?”

I started this blog six months ago. I couldn’t decide on a name, so I went with the one my mom gave me, markwalterpalmer.com (don’t worry, mom, it still works!). But the blog isn’t about me so the name didn’t fit. It’s about the impact of technology on being human:  the history of how tech has made the world a better place, efforts to establish diversity in tech, work culture in the digital world, open data projects for the common good. And, of course, AI, automation, and data.

My wife loves crossword puzzles, scrabble, and linguistics. I told her I wanted to rename the blog “Explaining AI.”

She hated it.

She thought for about 30 seconds.  “How about Techno Sapien? Like Homo sapien with technology.”  “Homo Sapien” in Latin refers to the wisdom of humanity. So, Techo Sapien is about the impact of technology on being human.

Perfect. The URL was available. Name changed.

I should marry that girl (oops, already did!).
